Today I’m going to show you how to make this adorable monster felt board! I used these cute monster printables that I found over at Somewhat Simple, by Joan from BitsyCreations. She has made these printables available for download at NO CHARGE! Can you believe it? So awesome! 🙂
So when I found these printables I had two dilemmas going on. My printer wouldn’t print in color at the time. Also I knew after laboring to cut all the little monster pieces out, my oldest munchie would blow through them in a couple of hours, since they would only be made of paper. Neither was much motivation to use them as they were originally intended. So I thought what a better way to make them last, and get them in color, than making a felt board. Win-win.
So here is what you will need:
- Printed monster printables
- 15×20 inch piece foam craft board
- 19×24 inch piece of felt, any color
- 13×18 inch piece of poster board
- 5-8 sheets of felt in colors of your choice
- Spray adhesive
- Craft glue
- Glue gun with glue sticks
- Pack of large wiggle eyes
- Puffy paints in gray, black, white, and pink/red
- Disappearing ink marking pen
First plug in your glue gun to get it heated.
Now lay your piece of 19×24 inch felt down on a flat surface. Next take your 15×20 inch piece of foam craft board and apply your spray adhesive liberally to one side according to the product directions. Lay the adhesive sprayed side of the foam board onto the felt, making sure it’s centered. Then press on the back of the board to ensure good, even contact with the felt.
Next take your glue gun and use it to secure the edges of the felt fabric to the back side of your foam board.
Once it has dried, spray one side of your 13×18 inch poster board with the spray adhesive. Apply it to the back of your foam craft board, centered. Now press it on, with quite a bit of pressure, to make sure it’s secure. The actual felt board is done now and just needs to dry.
Now onto the monsters. First cut out your monster printables.
Once you are done with cutting out the printables take your disappearing ink pen and trace the pieces onto your sheets of felt. I did this in batches so the ink wouldn’t start to disappear on me before I got them all cut out.
Once you have all the pieces cut out gather your felt monster eye cutouts and your wiggle eyes. (Cute name, huh? Wiggle eyes.) 🙂 Apply your craft glue to the back of the wiggle eyes and apply to your eye cutouts, making sure they are centered.
Next comes the creative part. 🙂 Gather your felt mouth cutouts and felt monster horns. Also get your puffy paints and the original corresponding paper monster cutouts. Now use your puffy paints to “paint on” your mouths onto the felt mouth cutouts. Do the same for your monster horns, painting on the stripes. I used the original paper cutouts as my model, but you can get as creative as you like with this.
Now let them dry.
AND… viola… your done! Now for hours of fun with these cute little critters! This is a perfect project right now with Halloween coming up, but also great for any time of year. I hope you and your munchies enjoy it, and have FUN with it! Let me know what you think.
