Lately I’ve been feeling the Lord impressing upon my heart the need to be wholly focused on who He say’s He is. Not who I think He is, not who the world is telling me He is, and surely NOT who the enemy is trying to convince me He is. So I thought, “How do we know for sure who He is and who He says He is?” Well by His word of course!
The quote that has stuck with me over the last few weeks is, “I am”. Almost as though the Lord has been challenging me to search through the scriptures to see what does He declare about Himself through the words, “I am”.
So what did I find when searching His word?… Here are just a few, a snippet, of the beautiful, life filled, words that He led me to…
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
“Yet I am the LORD your God
Ever since the land of Egypt,
And you shall know no God but Me;
For there is no savior besides Me.
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Then they all said, “Are You then the Son of God?” So He said to them, “You rightly say that I am.”
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
“Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.
“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.
Seriously I could go on and on. Something in the ball park of 850 search results came up for the quote “I am” in the NKJV. Even though not all apply to our Lord you can get an idea of how vast a resource we have in the Bible. Through it we will know the truth. It should be what we are measuring everything else against… Who does God say that He is? What does the Lord have to say about this and that issue?
It’s almost needless to say, but I will say it because we all need to be reminded of the faithfulness of the God we serve… His word is so powerful, so full of life, so full to overflowing with meaning, so in touch with current and present circumstances! That is the work of the Holy Spirit! How else could a written work from so long ago still be so relevant? Still be so alive with meaning and purpose? It really is a gift. A gift straight from the throne room of heaven.
